SPB in Mississippi – Southern pine beetle detection flights this year have identified thousands of active SPB spots on the National Forests in Mississippi. The vast majority of spots have been located in dense unthinned stands of Loblolly pine. Currently there has not been any activity of this magnitude reported in Louisiana or Texas. Landowners are encouraged to monitor their timberlands and be on the lookout for any large areas of dying pine trees.
EAB in Louisiana – Nine Louisiana parishes have been identified where the invasive Emerald Ash Borer has been found. These parishes are Bienville, Bossier, Claiborne, Jackson, Lincoln, Morehouse, Ouchita, Union and Webster. These parishes are included in the Federal EAB quarantine, which restricts the movement of harvested ash trees outside of the parish as well as the movement of nursery stock ash trees. A map of the quarantine area can be found here.
